Who you're agreeing with
Kura is made by Ng Zhong Wei, an independent developer ("we," in the singular sense). By downloading or using Kura you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app — no hard feelings.
About Apple
Kura is distributed through the App Store, and all purchases are processed by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's Media Services terms. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app or its content, but Apple (and its subsidiaries) may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary. Your licence to use Kura is Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, the EULA linked from Kura's App Store listing. These terms sit alongside it in plain words; wherever the two differ, Apple's EULA prevails.
Using the app
We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use Kura on Apple devices you own or control. The app, its design, and its name remain ours. The voice model, Kokoro-82M, is open source under the Apache 2.0 licence; its licence text is in Settings → Acknowledgements. Don't reverse-engineer the app, resell it, or use it to build a competing dataset or service.
Your content is yours. Articles you import, your highlights and notes — all of it belongs to you, and all of it lives on your device. We claim no rights over it, and we never receive it.
Import responsibly. Kura reads what you give it: pasted text, pages you have access to, printed pages you photograph. When a page is behind a paywall or a sign-in wall, Kura does not work around it — it sends you to Safari, where your subscription applies. You're responsible for having the right to read and store what you import, and for respecting authors' and publishers' rights. Kura is a reader for content you already have lawful access to — not a way around paywalls or licenses.
The free tier
Reading is free — every import method, every article, no limits, no time bombs. Listening is free on your first three articles, and on the first two minutes (about 380 words) of every article after that. We may adjust what's free over time; if we materially reduce it, we'll bump the date above and say so in the app.
Kura Pro — bought once
Kura Pro is one purchase, no subscription: nothing renews, nothing expires, and there is nothing to cancel. It unlocks the voice on every article, plus notes, plainer lines (with Apple Intelligence), a second voice, larger widgets, and Markdown export. Everything in Pro is yours for good.
The price is shown in the App Store and on the paywall. If it changes later, a purchase you have already made is unaffected — it is yours, at the price you paid.
Refunds
Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds directly, but email us anyway if something went wrong — we'll help where we can.
The voice and the intelligence are tools, not oracles
Kura's voice is AI-generated speech made on your iPhone: it can mispronounce a name or stumble on unusual text. The "So far" catch-up, plainer lines, the finishing gist, and generated titles are written on your iPhone by Apple Intelligence: they are aids to your reading, not authoritative summaries, and may occasionally be imprecise. The author's original text is always present and always primary. Don't rely on generated summaries for decisions that matter without reading the piece.
No warranty, limited liability
Kura is provided "as is." To the maximum extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we're not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the amount you paid for Kura in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under the consumer law of your place of residence.
Ending things
You can stop using Kura any time; deleting the app, or Delete All Data in Settings, deletes your library (see the privacy page — there's nothing on a server to close). We may terminate the license if you materially breach these terms.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and note it in the app. Continuing to use Kura after a change means you accept it.
